4 Questions to Ask Yourself if you Haven’t Been Accomplishing all the Goals you Set

The easiest part about accomplishing your goals is setting them. The real challenges arise when it’s time to do what it takes to actually accomplish them!

First, let’s start off by identifying two reasons why your goal setting process is weak.

1. You set too many goals! You have goals for your health, career, self-care, family, friendships, business, personal growth etc. And they’re all separate from each other, so you’re not able to focus on what it takes to succeed. If this is you, the solution is to focus on one goal at a time. You can include these different aspects of your life, just turn them into one overall goal.  For example,

Before: I want to eat more fruits and vegetables. I want to build relationships with new people. I want to learn public speaking. I want to launch my business.

After: I want to prepare for long-term success in entrepreneurship. (Eating healthier foods, networking, public speaking and starting now will help me to accomplish this goal.)

2. You set goals that are really habits.  A goal is a specific result or outcome. A habit is something you do regularly, it may be in pursuit of accomplishing a goal.  Differentiating between goals and habits will help you identify what’s actually necessary to be successful. If this is you, the solution is to identify the specific outcome you want to produce, then identify the habits necessary to make it happen. For example,

Goal: I want to make 50 sales over the next 2 months.

Habits: I need to practice my pitch four times every day, study sales via workshops, videos or books 10 hours every week and share my offerings with 10 new people every day.

Boom! Now adjust your current goals and improve your goal setting process to achieve more success in your efforts.

If you set a goal recently and didn’t accomplish it, ask yourself these 4 questions to identify your internal and external obstacles:

1. What happened around the time stopped making progress to accomplish your goal?

2. What were you thinking about and telling yourself when you made the decision to stop pursuing your goal?

3. What were the main things, places and people that influenced your decision to stop pursuing your goal?

4. What was the deciding factor in you choosing to stop pursuing your goal?

Make some time for self reflection right now. Answer these questions and determine what you will do to overcome the obstacles in the future!

Strengthen your weaknesses so they can’t hinder your progress!
